Overview

The ToupTek G3CMOS08300KPA is a colour camera with Sony’s IMX585, a 1/1.2″ STARVIS 2 sensor of 8.3 megapixels with 2.9 µm pixels, in a fan-cooled body.

The IMX585 is one of the most versatile small sensors: fast enough for the planets, large enough for good sections of the Moon and Sun, and sensitive in the near infrared. For the planets it samples well at around f/15. It also works for live stacking of small deep-sky targets.

If you want to take longer deep-sky exposures, the ATR585C uses the same sensor with TEC cooling.

Choose the window when you order. The IR-cut version is for normal colour imaging. Clear AR-coated glass lets infrared through, for use with an IR-pass filter on the planets and Moon, or your own UV/IR-cut filter.

Cooling

A fan in the body carries heat away from the sensor. It doesn’t cool below the air temperature, so it isn’t a replacement for a TEC-cooled camera on long deep-sky exposures.
