Overview
The Player One Uranus-C Pro is a cooled colour astronomy camera built around Sony’s IMX585 sensor. It is a small, light camera for galaxies, planetary nebulae and other small deep-sky targets, and it also works for the planets.
Cooling holds the sensor 35–40 °C below the air temperature at a set point you choose, so one set of dark frames can be reused across nights. Dark frames show no amp glow.
The 2.9 µm pixels suit shorter focal lengths for deep-sky work. On an 800 mm telescope the camera samples at 0.75″ per pixel and covers about 48 × 27 arcminutes. Read noise drops to 0.7 e⁻ at high gain, which helps with short sub-exposures and dual-band filters.
The carbon fibre body weighs 420 g. A heater keeps dew off the window, at a power you set. Tilt is set with the front three-point plate, and a rear four-point plate is available. A 512 MB buffer stops dropped frames on slower laptops.
It runs over USB without the 12 V supply, as an uncooled camera. For cooling you need a 12 V supply, which is not included: Player One recommends one rated at 5 A or more.
