Overview
The Player One Uranus-C is an uncooled colour astronomy camera built around Sony’s IMX585 sensor. It is made for the planets, the Moon and live stacking of deep-sky objects.
The sensor is larger than most planetary cameras. On a Celestron C8 at f/10 it covers about 19 × 11 arcminutes, which helps when a planet drifts or when you image the Moon. The 2.9 µm pixels are best matched at around f/14.
Each pixel holds up to 47,000 electrons, much more than older sensors of this size, and read noise drops to 0.7 e⁻ at high gain. The camera runs at 47 frames per second at full resolution, and dark frames show no amp glow.
The window is AR-coated, not IR-cut, so add a UV/IR-cut filter for natural colour. A 256 MB buffer stops dropped frames on a slower laptop or USB 2.0 port.
The body has a passive heatsink. Our Player One Active Cooling System fits if you want to keep it close to air temperature on long sessions.
