About Player One
Player One Astronomy was set up in June 2020 and makes only astronomy cameras and the accessories that go with them. Each series is named after a Solar System body or god: Zeus and Poseidon for deep sky, Apollo for the Sun, Mars and Neptune for the planets.
Dead pixel suppression (DPS) corrects hot and dead pixels inside the camera, so they don’t show as stray points in guiding or live views. Most of the cameras also have a memory buffer, so a slow laptop doesn’t drop frames.
Choosing a Player One camera
Start with your telescope. Sensor size decides how much sky you see, and a larger sensor needs a flattener or reducer that keeps the corners sharp. The 3.76 µm pixels of the IMX571 and IMX455 sample at about 1.55″ per pixel at 500 mm.
Colour cameras are the simplest start. Mono cameras with a filter wheel give finer detail and cope better with light pollution. For the Sun, a mono Apollo camera is the usual choice.
Shop by sensor and Compare cameras put models side by side. Our guides explain camera specifications and sensor sizes.
Software and drivers
N.I.N.A. and SharpCap control Player One cameras directly. Player One’s ASCOM driver covers other Windows programs, including PHD2, and an INDI driver covers KStars/Ekos and Raspberry Pi set-ups. Drivers are on Player One’s website.
The ToupTek StellaVita controller also runs Player One cameras and filter wheels from a phone or tablet.
