Overview

The Player One Apollo-M MAX is an uncooled mono astronomy camera built around Sony’s IMX432 global-shutter sensor. It is made for imaging the Sun and the Moon.

The 9 µm pixels are large, and each holds up to 100,000 electrons. That helps with the contrast between a bright solar disc and faint prominences. The camera runs at 126 frames per second at full resolution.

The 1.1″ sensor measures 14.5 × 9.9 mm, so the whole solar disc fits on the short side at focal lengths up to about 1,000 mm. A global shutter reads the whole frame at once, so moving seeing and the International Space Station don’t distort it.

The sensor tilt plate helps remove Newton’s rings in hydrogen-alpha and calcium-K images. A 256 MB buffer stops dropped frames on a slower laptop or USB 2.0 port.

The 160 g body has a passive heatsink. Our Player One Active Cooling System fits if you want it to run cooler on long sessions.

Only use the camera on the Sun with a proper solar filter, Herschel wedge or solar telescope.
