Overview

The Player One Xena 585M is an uncooled mono astronomy camera built around Sony’s IMX585 sensor, in a 65 g, 1.25″ body made for guiding.

Its sensor is large for a guide camera, with a 12.85 mm diagonal. That is about four times the area of the IMX462 in the Ceres 462M. On a 200 mm guide scope it covers about 3.2° × 1.8° at 3″ per pixel, so there are more stars to choose from. With an off-axis guider, the bigger chip makes better use of the prism.

Read noise falls to 0.7 e⁻ at high gain, and the sensor is sensitive in the near infrared, which helps short guide exposures.

The body has an M28.5 thread as well as the 1.25″ barrel, and back focus is 7.5 mm. It also runs at 47 frames per second at full resolution, so it can be used for planetary imaging too.
