Overview
The Player One Uranus-M is an uncooled mono astronomy camera built around Sony’s IMX585 sensor. It is made for high-speed imaging of the planets, the Moon and the Sun, and runs at up to 47 frames per second at full resolution.
The 2.9 µm pixels are best matched at around f/14, so a Barlow on most telescopes brings them into range. The sensor is larger than most planetary cameras: on a Celestron C8 at f/10 it covers about 19 × 11 arcminutes, which helps when a planet drifts or when you image the Moon.
Read noise drops to 0.7 e⁻ at high gain, so short exposures freeze the seeing without a noisy background. The IMX585 is sensitive in the near infrared, and a mono sensor uses all of it. With an IR-pass filter you can still get detail on nights when the seeing would blur a colour image.
A 256 MB buffer holds frames while they transfer, so a slower laptop or a USB 2.0 port doesn’t drop frames. Dark frames show no amp glow.
The body has no fan. Heat runs out through a passive heatsink, and our Player One Active Cooling System fits if you want to bring the sensor temperature down further.
