About ToupTek
ToupTek Photonics makes cameras for microscopes, industry and astronomy. It also builds cameras for other companies, so its sensors and electronics sit inside several better-known astronomy brands.
ToupTek Astro sells the astronomy range under ToupTek’s own name. The SkyEye Plus cameras go up to full frame, with a built-in USB hub and tilt adjustment. The compact ATR cameras cover the IMX585 to the APS-C IMX571, and the StellaVita, HOPE D60 and ATLAS SH20 complete an imaging rig.
Choosing a ToupTek camera
Start with your telescope. Sensor size decides how much sky you see, and a larger sensor needs a flattener or reducer that keeps the corners sharp. The 3.76 µm pixels of the IMX571 and IMX455 sample at about 1.55″ per pixel at 500 mm.
Colour cameras are the simplest start. Mono cameras with a filter wheel give finer detail and cope better with light pollution. Colour SkyEye Plus, ATR and G3M cameras come with a choice of IR-cut or clear AR window.
Shop by sensor and Compare cameras put models side by side. Our guides explain camera specifications and sensor sizes.
Software and drivers
N.I.N.A. and SharpCap control ToupTek cameras directly. ASCOM and DirectShow drivers cover other Windows programs, and INDI drivers cover KStars/Ekos and Raspberry Pi set-ups. Drivers are on ToupTek’s website.
The StellaVita has its own app for phones and tablets, and needs no drivers on your side.
ToupTek questions
Who makes ToupTek cameras?
ToupTek Photonics, a camera maker founded in Hangzhou, China, in 2010. It designs and builds its own astronomy cameras, and also makes cameras sold under other brand names.
Where can I buy ToupTek cameras in the UK?
From us. Pro Astronomy is an authorised ToupTek dealer in Shrewsbury, sending tracked across the UK and to Europe.
Are ToupTek cameras good for beginners?
Yes. A colour camera such as the ATR585C or ATR2600C is a sound first cooled camera, with no filter wheel to set up. Tell us your telescope and we’ll check it suits.
What software works with ToupTek cameras?
N.I.N.A. and SharpCap support them directly. ASCOM and DirectShow drivers cover other Windows programs, and INDI drivers cover Linux and Raspberry Pi. PHD2 works with ToupTek guide cameras.
What is the StellaVita?
ToupTek’s controller for running an imaging rig from a phone or tablet, with no laptop at the telescope. It was called the AstroStation until ToupTek renamed it.
What warranty do ToupTek cameras have?
One year from delivery, handled by us. If a camera needs repair, we arrange it with ToupTek and pay the postage both ways.
Does ToupTek make telescopes and mounts?
Yes. The HOPE D60 astrograph and the ATLAS SH20 strain wave mount, as well as guide scopes and a carbon fibre tripod.
