Overview
The Player One Ares-M Pro is a cooled mono astronomy camera built around Sony’s IMX533 sensor. Its square 1″ frame suits galaxies and nebulae, and it works with 1.25″ filters, which keeps a narrowband set affordable.
The 3.76 µm pixels match a wide range of telescopes. On a 600 mm refractor the camera samples at 1.29″ per pixel over a field of about 65 × 65 arcminutes. The 16 mm diagonal is easy to illuminate, so most flatteners and reducers give sharp corners.
Peak QE is about 91%, which keeps narrowband exposures shorter. Each pixel holds up to 73,000 electrons, about 1.5 times the standard IMX533. Dark frames show no amp glow.
Two-stage cooling holds the sensor 35–40 °C below the air temperature, at a set point you choose. A heater keeps dew off the window. Tilt is set with the front three-point plate, and a rear four-point plate is available for use with filter wheels and off-axis guiders.
The carbon fibre body weighs 420 g and has a 512 MB buffer. Back focus is 17.5 mm.
The cooler runs from 12 V. The power supply is not included: Player One recommends one rated at 5 A or more.
