Overview
The ToupTek G3CMOS20000KPA is a colour camera with Sony’s IMX183, a 1″ sensor of 20 megapixels with 2.4 µm pixels, in a fan-cooled body.
The large sensor fits the whole Moon or Sun into one frame at focal lengths where smaller planetary cameras need a mosaic. At 600 mm, for example, the full disc fits with room to spare. It also works for live stacking of bright deep-sky objects, where its resolution shows.
The IMX183 is an older sensor with some amp glow, which dark frames remove. For the planets alone, a smaller, faster STARVIS 2 camera such as the G3M678C is the better choice.
Choose the window when you order. The IR-cut version is for normal colour imaging. Clear AR-coated glass lets infrared through, for use with an IR-pass filter on the planets and Moon, or your own UV/IR-cut filter.
Cooling
A fan in the body carries heat away from the sensor. It doesn’t cool below the air temperature, so it isn’t a replacement for a TEC-cooled camera on long deep-sky exposures.
