Overview
The Player One Zeus 455M Pro is a cooled mono astronomy camera built around Sony’s full-frame IMX455 sensor. Its 61 megapixels and 43.3 mm diagonal make it a camera for wide-field deep-sky imaging with large, well-corrected astrographs.
The 3.76 µm pixels suit short to medium focal lengths. On a 500 mm astrograph it samples at 1.55″ per pixel over a field of about 4.1° × 2.75°, wide enough for the whole of the North America and Pelican nebulae in one frame.
The telescope must illuminate and correct a 44 mm field, or the corners will show soft stars and vignetting. Filters need to be 2″ or 50 mm to cover the sensor.
Each pixel holds up to 71,600 electrons at low gain, and read noise falls to about 1.5 e⁻ in high-gain mode. Peak QE is about 91%, which keeps narrowband exposures shorter.
Delta-T is about 35 °C below the air temperature, and Player One suggests running 30 °C below for the steadiest set point. Dark frames show no amp glow, so they can be reused across nights at the same temperature and gain.
A heater in front of the sensor keeps dew off the window, at a power you set. Tilt is adjusted from the back with a four-point plate. The 512 MB buffer holds each 61 MP frame while it transfers, so a slow laptop or USB 2.0 link doesn’t drop frames.
Back focus is 17.5 mm from the M54 thread, or 12.5 mm with the tilt plate removed, which leaves room for a filter wheel and off-axis guider before the usual 55 mm.
The camera weighs 650 g. The cooler runs from 12 V, and the power supply is not included: Player One recommends one rated at 5 A or more.
