Overview
The Player One Poseidon-M Pro is a cooled mono astronomy camera built around Sony’s APS-C IMX571 sensor. It is a deep-sky camera for narrowband and LRGB imaging with refractors and astrographs.
The 3.76 µm pixels suit short to medium focal lengths. On a 600 mm refractor it samples at 1.29″ per pixel over a field of about 2.2° × 1.5°. The 28.3 mm diagonal needs a flattener or reducer that corrects that much field; 36 mm or 2″ filters cover it.
Peak QE is about 91%. At low gain each pixel holds 71,700 electrons and the output is 16-bit. In high-gain mode read noise falls to about 1.4 e⁻, which helps with 3 nm narrowband filters. Dark frames show no amp glow.
Two-stage cooling holds the sensor about 40 °C below the air temperature, at a set point you choose. A heater keeps dew off the window. Tilt is adjusted from the back with a four-point plate.
Back focus is 17.5 mm, or 12.5 mm with the tilt plate removed, leaving room for a filter wheel and off-axis guider. A 512 MB buffer stops dropped frames on slower laptops.
The camera weighs 650 g. The cooler runs from 12 V, and the power supply is not included: Player One recommends one rated at 5 A or more.
