Overview
The Player One Mars-M II is an uncooled mono astronomy camera built around Sony’s IMX462 sensor. It is made for the planets, the Moon and guiding.
The IMX462 is very sensitive in the near infrared, with QE staying high well beyond 700 nm. With an IR-pass filter you can still get detail on nights when the seeing would blur a visible-light image. The window passes light from 310 to 1100 nm.
The camera runs at 136 frames per second at full resolution. Read noise falls to 0.7 e⁻ at high gain, and high-gain mode switches on automatically from gain 80. The 2.9 µm pixels are best matched at around f/14.
The full well is 12,000 electrons, small but enough for short planetary exposures. For a deeper well on the same pixel size, see the Mars 662M.
For guiding, a 200 mm guide scope gives 3″ per pixel. A 256 MB buffer stops dropped frames on a slow laptop or a USB 2.0 port.
