Overview

The Player One Mars-C is an uncooled colour astronomy camera built around Sony’s IMX462 sensor. It is a small, fast camera for the planets and the Moon.

The camera runs at 136 frames per second at full resolution. Read noise falls to 0.7 e⁻ at high gain, and the 2.9 µm pixels are best matched at around f/14.

The IMX462 is very sensitive in the near infrared, peaking around 800–850 nm. With an IR850 or methane filter it works like a mono camera, which helps in poor seeing. Add a UV/IR-cut filter for natural colour.

It also guides through the ST4 port, and with a CS-mount lens it works as an all-sky or meteor camera. A 256 MB buffer stops dropped frames on slower laptops.

For a deeper full well on the same pixel size, see the Mars-C II.
