Overview

The ToupTek AE676C AstroEye is a small cooled colour astronomy camera with Sony’s IMX676, a 1/1.6″ square STARVIS 2 sensor of about 12.5 megapixels with 2 µm pixels.

It’s built to do a bit of everything: planets, the Moon and the Sun at high frame rates, and deep-sky targets with cooling. The square frame suits galaxies and nebulae, and a single USB-C cable carries both power and data. Read noise drops to 1.01 e⁻.

Cooling works in two ways. With the fan off it holds the sensor 5 °C below the air temperature with no vibration, which suits planetary work. Clip on the magnetic fan and it reaches 20 °C below, for deep-sky exposures. That’s less than the ATR cameras, which reach 40 °C or more, but enough to keep noise steady and dark frames reusable.

Fitting

CS, C and M42 adapters and a 1.25″ extension tube come with the camera, so it fits telescopes, lenses and guide scopes. It works with ToupTek’s StellaVita controller and app as well as ToupSky, ASCOM and INDI.
