Overview
The Player One Artemis-M Pro is a cooled mono astronomy camera built around Sony’s IMX492 sensor. Its 4/3″ frame has very small 2.315 µm pixels, giving 47 megapixels.
That makes it two cameras in one. Unbinned, the small pixels suit short focal lengths: on a 400 mm refractor it samples at 1.19″ per pixel over about 2.75° × 1.86°. In 2 × 2 hardware binning it becomes an 11.7 MP camera with 4.63 µm pixels, for longer focal lengths.
Binning also raises the full well from 18,600 to 65,800 electrons and the output from 12 to 14 bits. Peak QE is about 90%.
The IMX492 shows some amp glow, more at high gain and in binned mode. Player One supplies dark frames to show it, and it calibrates out with matching darks.
Two-stage cooling holds the sensor about 40 °C below the air temperature, and a heater keeps dew off the window. Tilt is adjusted from the back with a four-point plate. Back focus is 17.5 mm, or 12.5 mm with the plate removed, and the 512 MB buffer handles the large frames.
The camera weighs 650 g. The cooler runs from 12 V, and the power supply is not included: Player One recommends one rated at 5 A or more.
