Overview

The Player One Apollo-M is an uncooled mono astronomy camera built around Sony’s IMX174 global-shutter sensor. It is made for imaging the Sun, especially in hydrogen-alpha, and it suits the Moon too.

A global shutter reads the whole frame at once, so seeing ripples don’t distort the image. The camera runs at 164 frames per second at full resolution, which helps freeze the seeing.

The 1/1.2″ sensor measures 11.3 × 7.1 mm. The whole solar disc fits on the short side at focal lengths up to about 750 mm. The 5.86 µm pixels suit long focal lengths and slow solar telescopes.

The sensor tilt plate helps remove Newton’s rings. A 256 MB buffer stops dropped frames on a slower laptop or USB 2.0 port.

The body has a passive heatsink. Our Player One Active Cooling System fits if you want it cooler on long sessions.

Only use the camera on the Sun with a proper solar filter, Herschel wedge or solar telescope.
