Overview
The Player One Apollo-M Mini is an uncooled mono astronomy camera built around Sony’s IMX429 global-shutter sensor. It is made for imaging the Sun and the Moon with smaller solar telescopes.
A global shutter reads the whole frame at once, so seeing ripples and the International Space Station don’t distort the image. The camera runs at 84 frames per second at full resolution.
The 2/3″ sensor measures 8.75 × 6.6 mm. The whole solar disc fits on the short side at focal lengths up to about 700 mm. The 4.5 µm pixels give finer detail than the Apollo-M on the same telescope.
Read noise falls to 1.45 e⁻ at high gain, and high-gain mode switches on automatically above gain 71. The sensor tilt plate helps remove Newton’s rings, and a 256 MB buffer stops dropped frames.
The body has a passive heatsink. Our Player One Active Cooling System fits if you want it cooler on long sessions.
Only use the camera on the Sun with a proper solar filter, Herschel wedge or solar telescope.
