Overview
The ToupTek GPM174M is a mono guide camera with Sony’s IMX249, a 1/1.2″ sensor of 2.3 megapixels with large 5.86 µm pixels and a global shutter.
The name points to the IMX174, the faster sensor with the same pixel layout; the IMX249 is its USB 2.0-speed sibling, which loses nothing for guiding. The large sensor gives a wide field to find guide stars in, and big pixels collect light quickly, which helps on an off-axis guider where stars are faint.
On a 200 mm guide scope it samples at about 6″ per pixel, so it suits guide scopes of 200 mm and longer, or an OAG on the main telescope.
Guiding connections
The camera runs from a single USB-C cable, and an ST4 port gives a direct guide connection to mounts that need it. It slides into a guide scope’s 1.25″ focuser with the supplied nosepiece, or threads on with the CS adapter. It also fits ToupTek’s OAG-X off-axis guider.
