Overview

The ToupTek GPCMOS01200KPF is a colour guide camera with Sony’s IMX225, a 1/3″ sensor of 1.2 megapixels with 3.75 µm pixels, behind an IR-cut window.

The larger 3.75 µm pixels collect plenty of light from guide stars in short exposures. On a 200 mm guide scope it guides at about 3.9″ per pixel, and PHD2’s sub-pixel centroiding copes well at that scale.

It can also take colour images of the planets and the Moon, sampling well at around f/18. It runs over USB 2.0 at up to 30 frames per second at full size; for planetary work the G3M678C is the faster choice. The GPM662C is the current guide camera with a newer STARVIS 2 sensor.

The IR-cut window keeps colours natural and stops infrared from blurring stars in refractors.

Guiding connections

The camera runs from a single USB cable, and an ST4 port gives a direct guide connection to mounts that need it. It slides into a guide scope’s 1.25″ focuser with the supplied extender, and the C thread takes other adapters. The body is 35 mm across and 62 mm long, small enough for a guide scope or off-axis guider.
