Overview
The ToupTek HOPE D60 is a 60 mm f/4.66 apochromatic astrograph with a built-in field flattener. Its five-element optics give a 44 mm image circle, enough to cover a full-frame sensor without a separate corrector.
At 280 mm focal length the field is wide. A full-frame sensor covers about 7.4° × 4.9°, and an APS-C sensor about 4.8° × 3.2°. With 3.76 µm pixels, as on the IMX571 in many APS-C cameras, it samples at 2.8″ per pixel.
Back focus
The camera thread is M48 × 0.75. Set the sensor about 55 mm behind it. ToupTek gives a working range of 50–58 mm, and 55 mm is the place to start for round stars in the corners.
Focuser and size
The 3″ dual-speed rack-and-pinion focuser holds a full imaging train, and takes a motor focuser such as ToupTek’s Astro Automatic Focuser.
The tube is 255 mm long with the dew shield pushed in and weighs 2.83 kg, so it suits a small mount and travels easily. It’s made for cameras, not for visual use with a star diagonal.
