Overview
The ToupTek SkyEye M54 Tilter adjusts tilt and back focus on ToupTek’s SkyEye full-frame cooled cameras. It fits the SkyEye62AC, SkyEye62AM and SkyEye24AC, and ToupTek list it as an accessory for the SkyEye Plus range.
A full-frame sensor is 43 mm across the diagonal, so even a very small tilt shows as sharp stars on one side of the frame and stretched stars on the other. Four adjustment points let you square the sensor to the light path. SkyEye Plus cameras have tilt adjustment built in, and the tilter adds a wider range for awkward optical trains, plus a way to fine-tune back focus.
It is an M54 × 0.75 ring with an effective thickness of 4.5 mm, so allow for that in your back focus spacing. A zero mark lines up with the guide lines on the camera body, which makes it easy to fit square and to return to a known starting point.
Fitting
On the original SkyEye62AC and 62AM, remove the camera’s 5 mm back-focus adapter, fit the tilter and refit the adapter. On the SkyEye24AC, remove the front ring and fit the tilter in its place.
